Royal Buckley Town Band: Music Director: Keith Gorton Jones Established in 1822, Royal Buckley is one of the oldest known brass bands in Great Britain. It is one of only four brass bands to proudly have the 'Royal Title' bestowed. We are very proud of our Royal title, although with the passing of time, the actual date it was conferred cannot be pinpointed exactly. It is certain we held the title in 1894, and it was probably around 1889-1890 that the title was granted, just after the Band played in Hawarden Castle for the Prince and Princess of Wales (later to become King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra). A registered charity, throughout the year the band performs all styles of music, from traditional brass band repertoire to arrangements of modern pop songs and more. Instantly recognisable and proudly at the head of many a parade, Royal Buckley play at many concerts, fetes, galas, civic celebrations, contests, charity events, rugby & football games. In 1985 the Band purchased the old fire station in Buckley and converted it into a band room, including a rehearsal room, music library, storeroom & social area for fund-raising events. The band room has recently undergone significant repair work and we work hard to raise funds to ensure we can continue our proud tradition and drive forward the legacy of the players who came before us. We look now to ensure the future for those to come, with the formation of a new Youth band. Any enquiries regarding joining the band, the band’s activities and donations may be addressed to the Band Manger: Mr Martin Bassett-Rhodes email: royalbuckleytownband@gmail.com Registered Charity Number: 1183262 ![]() |

![]() Chester Male Voice Choir are delighted to welcome The Perth Male Voice Choir in concert on Wednesday 3rd Hall, Town Hall Square, Chester. CH1 2HQ. Perth Male Voice Choir are arriving in the Uk from Australia and Chester is their first port of call before embarking on a tour of North Wales and many more concerts.. The Perth Male Voice Choir from Western Australia has been performing for over 98 years and currently has over 60 members. The Choir performs for a variety of events in and around Perth averaging over twenty concerts including a number of charity events most years. The Choir undertook its first overseas tour of the UK in 2018, performing five concerts in South Wales, including in St David’s Cathedral and then the Cotswolds. The Choir then performed at the Albert Hall as part of the London Welsh Festival of Male Choirs with 16 other male choirs from around the world. This year we are touring Chester and North Wales with concerts in Chester, Llandudno, Llanfairfechan, Betws y Coed, Beaumaris, and Caernarfon. Although it is not a Welsh Choir, it sings in the Welsh tradition of four-part harmony with a piano accompaniment and includes a number of songs in Welsh in its varied repertoire. The Choir is not an auditioned choir and whilst some singing experience and an ability to read music are desirable, they are not essential. The most important attribute is enthusiasm. Our annual events such as music festivals, St David’s Day, the Welsh free Church’s Gymanfa Ganu and traditional pub “afterglows” adds to the sense of camaraderie and community. |
